Binational Health Week (BHW) is a multisector collaborative effort that began in 2001 with the goal of raising awareness and addressing the unique health challenges faced by Latino communities living in the United States and Canada. BHW occurs every year in October, bringing together community members, government agencies, and thousands of volunteers to host a series of health education and health promotion events. Over the years, BHW has evolved into one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas, dedicated to improving the health and well-being of underserved Latino populations. What started as a week of events in October has grown into a month-long series of events, organized collaboratively by Latin American consulates, community organizations, and government agencies from the U.S., Mexico, and other Latin American countries, focusing on reaching the most disadvantaged and underserved populations.

Local impact in Santa Clara county

We are thrilled to celebrate the 20th Annual Binational Health Week in 2024! Since the inception of the BHW initiative in Santa Clara County in 2005, we have organized over 376 community events, provided 25,083 health screenings, and collaborated with more than 70 agencies annually. Last year alone, the County’s Binational Health Week hosted more than 30 events, serving over 15,392 participants, working with 115 community partners, and providing over 1,162 health screenings, 167 flu shots, and 40 COVID-19 vaccines. Thanks to the combined efforts of our community partners and members, we have reached over 528,000 residents and continue to make a significant impact on our local community.
