Every World AIDS Day since 1988, people worldwide unite against HIV. In Santa Clara County, the Public Health Department, Getting to Zero Initiative, and community partners come together to commemorate World AIDS Day.
People living with HIV are neighbors, friends, coworkers, and family members. With today's modern treatments, people living with HIV can live long and healthy lives. However, the fight continues until the disease is eradicated. Let’s end HIV and AIDS together.
The last local World AIDS Day event concluded in December 2024. Last year's theme, designated by UNAIDS as "Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress", recognized the role that people living with, at risk of, or affected by HIV play in the fight to end AIDS.

In previous years, the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, Getting to Zero Initiative, the City of San Jose, and local partner organizations joined organizations around the world to commemorate the annual World AIDS Day. The events were focused on addressing health inequities still prevalent today, magnified by COVID and mpox, for people living with HIV and AIDS. A series of free, in-person, and virtual events with local organizations were hosted open to the public.
Partners honored and remembered the nearly seven thousand people diagnosed with HIV in the County of Santa Clara since the beginning of the fight, including 4,991 people diagnosed with AIDS.
